Using Classic Psychology Examples to Teach Critical Thinking

Over the last few years, some classic examples in psychology have come under more scrutiny. Phineas Gage (frontal lobe), Kitty Genovese (the bystander effect), and the Stanford Prison Study (conformity and obedience), to name just a few. Should we discuss them as we always have, toss them in favor of more recent research, or do something else? This presentation will provide ideas for how to tackle the Stanford Prison Study as a way to teach critical thinking. In this presentation, you’ll be provided with readings for your students along with an assignment that can be used as an in-class small group discussion or a written assignment.
